SEMINAR with Clara Capelli (AICS Jerusalem) Revolution and Resistance without Economic Change
Ill-Fated Development Policies in the MENA Region and in Palestine
Despite the economic causes of the uprisings in 2011, seven years later development policies have failed to pursue any objective of job creation and social justice, mainly replicating the supply-side policy agendas of the fallen regimes. A peculiar case is represented by Palestine and the so-called "economy of occupation", with international donors designing and implementing policies that can hardly be effective in paving the way to inclusive and sustained development in the Palestinian Territories.
This seminar will review and critically discuss development policies implemented by governments and international donors (mainly multilateral) in the MENA region after 2011 as well as in the Palestinian Territories (West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip), with a dedicated focus on the issues of job creation, capital accumulation, and regional/social disparities.
